Lots of skin incoming!
Happy Monday everyone, this weeks tutorial is going to be kicking off a brand new project of the Darkoath Chieftain with a focus on skin. The flesh sure isn't weak with these chaos marauders of the north (I only know the Old World lore), as they stride across the frozen wastes tainted by Chaos in all manners of fur, leather, armour sections, and of course bearing their physique for all of the realms to see! This gives us a nice transition into painting some new materials other than the numerous amounts of harder elements such as armour, stone, and bone to give us something more fleshier and muscles of the human kin. This project will also be something where I'll be pushing my painting into a more display level thats more towards taking it fit for competition, or rather that is the aim. I want to share with you not just a recipe, but emphasize more of the process and techniques in which I refine areas. Going into what I do to critique my work between and during sessions, what I'm looking for, and strategies of making corrections or build on what is already there. I haven't painted too many small human heads in my library of work, so this is also me stepping out of my comfort zone and pushing myself. Especially since this piece isn't for a client commission, and I don't have the usual time/budget constraints that comes with those projects.
Lastly with the final image being Belial, Grand Master of the Deathwing Terminator. Starting off with the face, as it's the only flesh on this model and being hot off painting the skin of this Chieftain, I went ahead to start right at the heart of the character. In the coming weeks, he will also see some elements made into tutorials with a focus on some key elements to give you some material focus tutorials such as the Power Sword, Cape & Armour which should be easily transferable to your own copy, or any element of the imperium.
