Leviathan & trusting your process

If you are wondering where are my words on the Terminator Captain that I recently released the Pt.1 tutorial without any WIP mentions. It's because I'm under NDA with Games Workshop as that's the agreement I have taken in order to get a pre-release copy of the Leviathan boxset! So when these come about, there will be others in the future. They will come out as a bit of a surprise, but hopefully a good one! As a consolidation of this, it was actually hard to not share with my fans and my members of the Pro Palette. I really enjoy sharing the process of my work, as I find the most joy in creating and bringing you all along. So in these cases, you will have to settle for post-project words. Lastly, thank you to all that have watched, liked, and subbed to my YouTube channel and enjoyed the Blood Angels Terminator Captain tutorial!

Following the painting of Exodus, I again got to jump onto another character model. I felt really energized and had a strong visual focus that was needed when painting a single model. There are phases for me that shift from doing single characters, to a broader vision of painting a unit or group of models together. When selecting a project, what I'm feeling I take into consideration when choosing to do the next model or unit. This could be a "feeling" of a particular set of colours I've seen in other works; many paintings and art from outside the hobby. Or even what kind of brush movements my hands are feeling akin to performing. Over the many years of being creative, I've grown to be more in touch with my inner self and body. Trusting it more and more to work in the flow of strengths that can wax and wane. Doing my best to ride a current of least resistance and in that form create a working environment of inspiration finding me working. Feeling more trust in my decisions and allowing me to really play and take on challenges and risks which ends up being the most fun part of it all! With that little spiritual jargon, I wanted to take what I've learned, implement the light direction and put it into the Terminator. Then adding a new element to put into the mix was the airbrush. Sketching out the light with it and laying down the initial reds. Achieving a smooth transition and strong unified colour with temperature modulation. I wanted again more focus on the lighting to carry the theme and only add smaller chips and a bit of texture to break up the smooth plains with visual interest. The airbrush choice also comes down to a goal I wanted to work for myself. That's achieving an excellent tabletop miniature that’s in my own style and specifications, while also keeping the paint time down. That’s not to say my painting goals have changed into an army painter and abandoning my eagerness to push further with Golden Daemon. Rather it can allow me to successfully express more detail in models that I don't have the bandwidth of 50,100+ hours to paint on.

The airbrush once again felt fresh and renewed like an old friend. Even though the process of this model, I was getting old feelings of my Graffiti days. The fun sense of creating with propelled paint from pressure and playing with angles and enjoying myself. I think having a mixture of setting new goals, using momentum from past projects, and listening to your inner creative voice puts together a painting combination that equals fun and enjoyment. I hope some of what I'm saying comes through my work on the model, as well as my enthusiasm for seeing my friends and members’ own paintings. As for the Terminator, the experience was terrific and creating this latest tutorial for Youtube with the positive response it received is amazing. Thanks for all the views and I hope you found something of value in the tutorials releases so far. Whether it's a paint list, theory on temperatures of red, highlight placements, or simply to enjoy the creating process, your support means everything and I thank you for your support. Much love and happy painting :)
