Qin Xa

This is the first and my personal painting of the First Captain, Qin Xa of the White Scars. For this theme, I like to draw upon elements of classical Chinese armour decorations and the extravagant use of gold and fine silks. Both show the wearer's wealth, power and prestige, further separating themselves from the rest of the army as an important figure. Leaving the classic white and red colours of the legion entirely. It seems gold is always a Work in Progress as it’s one of the hardest colours to paint in NMM. It’s so complicated with the variation of tones and colour work. This model also incorporated my original army scheme element of the sunrise coming up from behind. I’ve since left this element out for the wider army, but have retained it in this character model simply because it’s better showcased on a hero character such as this. The final element I love is the base itself. Since him standing on top of a dead Comtemptor didn’t do anything to drive the character other than he is an absolute force of nature. I wanted to illustrate his wisdom through a Ying Yang, or Eb and Flow. The mastery of his battlefield prowess both with his twin blades of Jade and the two Koi Fish symbolizing at his feet.
