Warmonger Titan - Legio Xestobiax, Adeptus Titanicus
This is no.2 of the Warmonger titans that I’ve painted for my Legio set in the game of Adeptus Titanicus. The models kits are fantastic and with such large armour plating surfaces they are just prime canvases for some freehand work. Throughout my exploration of painting these kits I’ve pushed myself on my own road of freehand painting starting with a direct copy of Richard Gray’s Skull with the red cloth draped across the eye sockets. As much as I am a teacher here in the Pro Palette, I am first and foremost a student of the artform and I never want to stop learning. His tutorial on Patreon helped me work on some fundamentals to freehand and gave me the confidence to illustrate my own original works. On this titan the most notable freehands are on the large shoulder pauldrons of a collage of skulls and a snake skull. Secondary freehands are some checker patterns on the upper thigh of his right leg, and a torso panel on his left. As well as alternating chevrons on the knee pad. When the freehands were done, I noticed it was lacking colour and the piece was looking a little bland. The graphic experiment by adding the Phalo Green transparent stripes and circle pattern was to both give additional colour interest as well as work as leading lines to the focal point of the titans head. A choice that gives a nod to my former creative profession as a Graphic Designer, something that is simple and striking that plays off the complexity of the skulls illustrated.
